Emily Luaren Brings Her Comedy Cabaret to Insurgo Theater for Limited Run

Insurgo Theater welcomed a new production from Emily Lauren, graduate of the Dell Arte International School of Physical Theatre: SUGAR PUPPY'S COMEDY CABARET on July 2.

The burlesque comedienne brings a buxom lineup of characters ranging from the sensual to the grotesque. The characters spring to life in an ever-changing world of masks and costumes by Lauren. Assisted by Breon Jenay as Sweetie Puss, the show is a comic exploration of females and persona.

"In particular the sex persona," says John Beane, Insurgo Artistic Director. "Emily is reaching for the light with it, she's channeling Carol Burnett and the best parts of commedia as much as the Vegas girl-trying-to-make-it motif. There's this underlying sense of questioning, social commentary; exploration. It's not really feminism. Its true clown work. Between the masks, the grotesqueries, the childlike, bizarro titillation's, you start to wonder what persona you're putting on in your life, in your bed even..."

Sugar Puppy Comedy Cabaret runs through July 17. Tickets available at www.insurgotheater.org.
