10-time Tony nominated musical
comes to Las Vegas.
The Smith Center for the Performing Arts will begin its Broadway-subscription series with the 2004 Tony nominated-production of Wicked. The musical, which earned 10 nominations, is the untold story of the witches of Oz. The production comes to the 2050-seat Reynolds Hall for a limited 6-week engagement August 29 – October 7, 2012. It is produced by Marc Platt, Universal Pictures, The Araca Group, Jon B. Platt and David Stone.

“This was a long time coming for us and we are elated that the first event we are announcing is such an extraordinary production,” says The Smith Center for the Performing Arts President and CEO, Myron Martin. “It is a great honor to be able to host the national tour of WICKED and introduce the Las Vegas community to this musical phenomenon.”

The Smith Center for the Performing Arts is still under construction, with a planned opening date of March 2012. The 5-acre cultural campus will feature three performance spaces including the Reynolds Hall with refined acoustics, and the Boman Pavilion housing a cabaret jazz space and a studio theater.

The Wicked Story:  Long before Dorothy drops in, two other girls meet in the Land of Oz. One – born with emerald-green skin – is smart, fiery and misunderstood. The other is beautiful, ambitious and very popular. WICKED tells the story of their remarkable odyssey, and how these two unlikely friends grow to become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good.
